Preparing for Test Installation of Our Digital Inker

Update on the Digital Inker Test at the Joplin Globe

The test was held on April 2nd & 3rd and went very well.  Actually, better than we had hoped for.  April 2nd was spent getting our software set up to communicate with the inker and to get the computer tied into the Globes press speed.  We did get to conduct a fast print test to make sure everything was working.  April 3rd we ran roughly 18,000 papers conducting different tests to see how the inker followed the press speeds.  The test went so well, that we scheduled it to run LIVE that evening on their Main Edition.  We ran approximately 50,000 papers that night with the Globe's Pressmen setting the ink with our digital inker.

We decided to pull the inker out, so we could get it cleaned up and make some modifications.  We will modify our pack so that it is a direct replacement for the standard GossTM single piston page pack.  When we are done, our digital inker will slip into the existing space of the GossTM page pack and hook up to the existing ink hoses with no modifications to the press other than connecting the computer with inker software to our digital inker.

After all of the modifications have been made, the digital inker will be re-installed at the Joplin Globe for extended testing.
